Tanners Historic Guided Tour
We’re delighted to welcome you to this historic tour with a fizz reception in A Taste of Tanners' courtyard. Guests will be greeted with a glass of Tanners Cava before embarking on a fascinating journey through the cellars, passageways, and many curious rooms of our much-loved Wyle Cop home.
Interest in our historic tours has grown steadily over the years, thanks in no small part to the rich and layered history of Shrewsbury, a town steeped in character and history. Tanners lies at the very heart of one of its oldest streets, Wyle Cop. Our extraordinary building, dating in parts from the 16th and 15th century, remains architecturally fascinating with the additions of the passing centuries showing how this building has been in constant use since its construction. It’s one of Shrewsbury’s oldest surviving secular buildings - a remarkable time capsule that continues to buzz with life as the hub of our family-run wine business.
During the tour, you’ll hear stories from the building’s past, discover what it was before Tanners moved in, and learn about the many roles it has played over the years. You’ll even see the filming location of Fezziwig’s party from the 1984 adaptation of A Christmas Carol starring George C. Scott.
We look forward to welcoming you and sharing a glass and a slice of Tanners history.
